Visionary Images – Xsite Project

Site Number: 13
Site Location: Atherton Gardens Precinct

Artwork Title: Xsite Project
Artist: Created by children living on and around the Atherton Gardens Housing Estate in collaboration with Visionary Images.

XSite is a creative project where children and young people aged 8 to 14 years collaborate with artists to develop and exhibit public art in their neighbourhood. Children learn new skills and bring their ideas and experiences into the open. Through positively communicating with as many people as possible, they are supported to build understanding, change perceptions and break cycles of disadvantage.

The Xsite lightboxes show us how children and young people see themselves and the world around them. They reveal how people’s actions affect our world and ask us to step lightly on the earth before it’s too late.

At Visionary Images (VI), artists collaborate with young people to develop, produce and exhibit public art. VI inspire creativity and nurture personal growth in young people from all walks of life, many of whom have experienced hardship. They aim to exhibit to the broadest possible audience to raise community awareness of the social issues that affect us all. VI exhibits artworks in highly visible, often unusual public spaces, taking art into the streets and everyday life.
