Artwork Title: Fragments of Memory Remain
Made from found photographs of Gertrude Street, the projected video is a visual exploration of blurred memories and residual history.
Amelia Johannesʼ art practice investigates the construction of the self and duality of a personal identity. Her experimental videos visually explore ritual, tradition, uncertainty, perception and memory as components of identity. The method behind her investigation is to re-assemble collected materials in idiosyncratic ways to create patterns. Visual materials are edited to emphasis patterns of rhythm, transforming the original material into a visually abstract form.
Johannes recently completed Master of Fine Art (By Research) at VCA–University of Melbourne. Selected solo exhibitions include Twofoldness at Linden Centre for Contemporary Arts, ONE BOTH AND NEITHER AT ONCE, Propaganda Window and Forms Twinned at Bus Projects. Johannes has screened her video works as part of Tele visions festival (Sydney), Nite art festival, Filmideo (New Jersey), Human Rights Arts & Film Festival and Australian International Experimental Film Festival.
