KTV karaoke presents Total Eclipse of the Heart is a homage to karaoke. Kalinda Vary will present multiple renditions of the Bonnie Tyler 1982 power-ballad Total Eclipse of the Heart. Says Bonnie Tyler of the song: “[it’s a] …. challenge [to sing],” stating that she “[doesn’t] like songs that anybody can sing. I like songs that need a lot of energy.” and Kalinda has taken up this challenge, completely vocally untrained Kalinda has rehearsed and rehearsed this homage to “…the darkness, the power of darkness and love’s place in dark.” 1 through endless karaoke sessions and secretly singing out loud at home when nobody is around… Come and watch Kalinda attempt to channel Bonnie, remembering karaoke is not about being a good singer, rather, it is about the performance.

Since graduating from the VCA in 2014 with a BFA Honours Kalinda has continued to exhibit and participate in the Melbourne art community. The most recent exhibition being Cabal, a TCB gallery group show exhibited in Montpellier, France. Kalinda has an upcoming show In-between there are obstacles at Westspace scheduled for August with Briony Galligan. Kalinda’s practice centres around an examination of ‘performance’ and its slippages. For the past year Kalinda and friend Sam George have been devotedly visiting kbox Lonsdale Street. And everytime at karaoke Kalinda sings Total Eclipse of the Heart at least once.
