Transplant is a mixed media installation constructed from found objects and light, examining notions of value and the contextualisation of identity. Constructed from objects gathered from the side of the road as well as from a trip to the garbage depot, the discarded objects are relocated and re-contextualised as art through a collaborative effort between Travers and young artists who participated in a workshop conducted with Yarra Youth Services. The mundane objects of throw away consumer culture are lifted from contemporary domestic life and transplanted into the public realm. Transformed through a creative group effort, the objects are found in a new context, re-injected with value and allowed to shine anew.
Travers Nash’s studio based practice investigates our contemporary relationship with the technological object. In particular, Nash explores the possibilities of technology within the framework of the embodied sonic event; examining the phenomenologies associated with the interaction between sound, object and subjective viewer. Nash’s work encompasses photography, video, painting, installation, sculpture, electronics circuitry, music, sound and performance. Nash has undertaken residencies and exhibited in India, Nepal, China, Iceland, Finland, Spain and Australia.
